Traditionally a Japanese therapy, Reiki (pronounced ‘Ray-kee’) works energetically on the physical, mental and emotional levels. It aims to promote health and wellbeing, bringing balance and harmony to the body, mind and spirit. It has its foundations in Tibetan Buddhism but was apparently forgotten until its rediscovery in the late 19th Century; today, the number of Reiki practitioners in the Western world has steadily increased, and it is practised by an increasing number of nurses in hospitals all over the world.
During treatment, the client remains fully clothed and the therapist uses gentle touch, stretches and massage to encourage the free flow of energy through the body. The therapist also works on the ‘luminous energy field’ surrounding the body, including the seven chakras.
This energy field determines how we heal, how we live and ultimately how we die. Reiki can be particularly valuable after a stressful or traumatic event, or a bereavement. Traumatic and unsettling events create an imprint within our energy field that predisposes us towards physical and emotional disease. These imprints can also guide us unconsciously into repeating the same emotional patterns through life, to our detriment.
Combining powerful healing techniques, the Reiki practitioner erases these ‘heavy’ energies, replacing them with light, releasing the client from the powerful grip of the past, and its karma. In this way, the energy field and the chakras are brought back into balance, with a positive impact on mind, body and soul. Reiki treatments may help you find inner peace, happiness and physical well-being.
Some people feel deeply relaxed after treatment; others report a feeling of invigoration.
Letting go of the past can be helped by detachment from negative emotions. With help we can see where we are 'stuck' or leaking energy to a person, belief or idea. Financing a poor decision, for instance, can cost us not only with our bank balance but also with our immune system, leaving us feeling vulnerable and in need of restoration. We may need understanding to to see our way forward with more hope and clarity.
As a step on the spiritual journey, we must dispel fears and illusions so that we may get to the truth of our circumstances. This leads to a better knowing of who we really are.
Through use of breathing techniques and we can be guided to become more grounded and protected. We may then be able to let go of our past pain and bad habits. Gaining a more positive outlook enables a change of perspective that will provide us with a clearer connection with our Higher Self. And then we can start to see the bigger picture in life. With self knowledge and a renewed understanding of purpose, we integrate and become responsible for our well being, ready to follow our life with renewed passion and live 'in the now'.
Sessions are priced at £45 for one hour.
